Counselling FAQs
What is your counselling approach?
I’m an integrative counsellor, which means I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches to best suit your individual needs. My work is grounded in psychodynamic theory, person-centred values, and trauma-informed practice. This means we might look at patterns from the past, how you're feeling in the present, and ways to build resilience going forward.
Should I prepare anything before the first session?
There’s no need to prepare in a specific way. Just come as you are. If it helps you feel more at ease, you might take a moment beforehand to reflect on what’s bringing you to therapy or anything you’d like me to know.
Do you take notes during sessions?
I may occasionally jot down brief notes to support my thinking, but this is always done with care and discretion. I also keep minimal clinical records, stored securely and in line with data protection law.
Should I choose weekly or fortnightly sessions?
Weekly sessions are usually recommended, especially at the start, as they help build trust and continuity. Fortnightly sessions may be possible later on depending on your needs — we can discuss this together.
What issues can counselling help with?
Counselling can support you with a wide range of emotional, relational and life challenges including anxiety, low self-worth, loss, transitions, identity, relationship difficulties, and perinatal mental health. You don’t need to be in crisis to come to therapy, it’s a space for reflection, growth and support at any point in life.
How long will I need counselling?
This depends on you. Some people come for a set number of sessions (e.g. 6–12), while others choose to work together longer-term. We’ll check in regularly and make decisions together as we go.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a space to talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, explore your hopes for the work, and see whether we feel like a good fit. There’s no pressure to commit, it’s a gentle starting point.
