Helen Thorpe | Counselling & Psychotherapy

You don't have to be falling apart to come to therapy.

Perhaps you're holding everything together on the outside while feeling overwhelmed underneath. Maybe you're stuck in the same patterns, struggling with anxiety or low self-worth, navigating grief or a major life change, or simply feeling that something isn't quite right.

Therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of what's happening, and reconnect with yourself.

Therapy That Helps You Understand Yourself

I'm an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist based in South West London, offering in-person therapy in Tooting and online sessions across the UK and worldwide.

I believe therapy is about more than simply managing symptoms. It's an opportunity to slow down, make sense of your experiences, and better understand yourself. Together, we'll explore not only what's happening in your life right now, but also the patterns, relationships and past experiences that may be shaping how you feel today.

I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can speak openly, feel genuinely heard, and explore whatever feels important at your own pace. My role isn't to tell you what to do, but to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself so that lasting change feels possible.

I commonly support people experiencing:

  • Anxiety and overthinking

  • Burnout and stress

  • Low self-worth

  • Grief and loss

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Major life transitions

  • Perinatal mental health

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck in familiar patterns, or simply sensing that something isn't quite right, therapy can offer the time and space to reconnect with yourself. If you're looking for therapy in Tooting, South West London, or online anywhere in the UK, I'd be delighted to support you.

About My Approach

No two people are the same, so I don't believe therapy should be either.

I work in an integrative way, which means I tailor therapy to your individual needs, experiences and goals. Rather than following a set formula, we'll work together to find an approach that feels right for you.

At the heart of my work is a warm, compassionate and collaborative relationship. My approach is rooted in person-centred therapy, creating a space where you feel genuinely heard, accepted and understood.

Alongside this, I draw on psychodynamic therapy, helping us to explore how past experiences, relationships and long-held patterns may be influencing the way you think, feel and respond today. By understanding these patterns with curiosity and compassion, we can begin to make sense of them and create lasting change.

I believe that understanding why we feel the way we do can be just as important as learning how to move forward. By developing a deeper understanding of yourself, you can begin to make choices that feel more authentic, empowering and lasting.

Where it feels helpful, I may also incorporate mindfulness, creative techniques or inner child work to deepen our understanding. These are always used thoughtfully and collaboratively, depending on what feels most supportive for you.

I'm a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their Ethical Framework, providing therapy that is safe, confidential and professional. I am committed to ongoing professional development and offer a thoughtful, compassionate space where you can explore life's challenges at your own pace.

Pregnancy, Birth and Early Parenthood

Pregnancy, birth and becoming a parent can bring profound emotional change. While this time can be filled with joy and excitement, it can also bring anxiety, grief, uncertainty or a sense of feeling unlike yourself.

Alongside my general therapy practice, I have additional training and experience in supporting people through the emotional challenges that can arise during pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. I offer a warm, compassionate space where we can make sense of whatever you're experiencing, without judgement.

I can support people experiencing:

  • Anxiety during pregnancy

  • Birth trauma

  • Postnatal depression

  • Difficulties adjusting to parenthood

  • Fertility challenges and infertility

  • Miscarriage, stillbirth and baby loss

I welcome both mothers and fathers, as well as anyone affected by the emotional impact of becoming a parent.

In-Person and Online Therapy Options

I offer both in-person and online therapy, giving you the flexibility to choose the setting that feels right for you.

In-person sessions take place in a calm, private counselling room at my home in Tooting, South West London (SW16), providing a comfortable and confidential space where we can work together without interruption.

Online therapy is available to clients across the UK via secure video call. Many people find online sessions just as effective as meeting in person, while offering greater flexibility around work, family life or location.

Whichever option you choose, you'll receive the same warm, thoughtful and collaborative approach. Not sure which option is right for you? We can discuss this during your free 15-minute consultation.
